| Healthy Self Esteem |

| Humans are Masters at creating ego defense mechanisms. Growing up as children, you are all very vulnerable. You take your hits on the playground, try to measure up in the classroom, and at home you compete daily for affection and attention. As you continue to notice that the world does not revolve around you, your vulnerability increases to an uncomfortable state. This is when you learn to build very strong ego defense mechanisms needed to survive on the playground, the classroom, and the home. But as you become an adult you begin to feel an uneasiness about the pretenses and faces you have created to convince the world that you are invincible. This uneasiness increases until you realize that you can no longer energetically hold up the facade. As you begin to lower these defenses you feel the same intense vulnerability you did as a child and often retreat back behind the pretense. Little by little you test your authenticity, until you are fully revealed, naked to the world. When you are in this place, it is very lonely and frightening and the world begins to mirror your fear. But instead of retreating, you begin to build a new way of relating in the world - healthy confidence begins to develop. But to truly have this confidence, you must see yourself in an acceptable light. You must find yourself to be the wonderful Being that you truly are. This is very difficult because the years of building the phony facades did not shield you from the negative energetic hits. Only a true, healthy self esteem can manage the negativity of your world. Many people begin to build this healthy self esteem early in life through reinforcement from parents and teachers, pride in accomplishments, and freedom to build character. But if you did not have parents or teachers with a healthy self esteem, you probably received all of their pain and vulnerability they projected onto you in order to rid themselves of their own negativity. The fact is that the false defenses that appear to shield a person from the pain of life don’t work. Because they are false, the negative energy permeates their shield (or aura) tearing away and causing much damage which takes a very long time to heal. But it is possible to heal, and it is possible to build a healthy self concept. First you must consistently release the ego defenses by watching your words. Are these words the way you truly feel, or are you lying to appear King of the hill. Then you must allow yourself to be vulnerable, but realize that you are not a victim of life. A person only receives what they give out, so if you are always fearing the worst, you will probably experience a lot of unpleasantries. But when you can stand in your vulnerability and realize that this is the way to the ultimate strength, you will begin to build a character based upon the positive energy that you are focusing on. When you focus on the wonderful things you can experience in life by being open and available, and not hidden, you will find a whole new world of wonder. By concentrating on the wonderful things that life has to offer, eliminating the illusion of fear that you learned behind your defenses, you can begin to step out in confidence and strength. Try not to measure your life by accomplishments, the acquisition of love or money. Realize that if you are just beginning to step out in vulnerability and strength, that your true life has only just begun. Do not focus on the past that holds no keys to your future. Be joyous that you have begun to learn true authenticity, building genuine feelings, incorporating positive words into your speech, and having intimacy in your relationships. Know that today is the only day you have to build the world that you are wanting for yourself. Regrets will only cause you to live your moments focused on the past. As a child of God you are truly wonderful, and God’s standards for greatness are in authentic living, giving and receiving the wondrous gifts that are ours for just a fleeting moment called, "Life." |
