Understanding Fears
by CJ Martes

"Fear and Faith cannot exist
in the same house"
-Merchant

Several years ago I ran across the above quote. At that time I liked it but didn't contemplate it very much.

In my work, I help others identify what causes the fear that holds them back. Recently I thought of this quote again and how appropriate it is in our daily life. We all have fear, certainly sometimes more than others.

We all have fear. There are many ways to see it in your life. Many ways to describe it: fear can be deciding not to go on an outing with friends; not asking for a promotion; not opening up your heart to a loved one; not offering someone compassion; not protecting your heart when you should be. Whatever our fear is, there is a struggle inside us.

The quote talks also about faith. For the purposes of this article I'm interpreting the word faith to be the hope or optimism we have inside ourselves. Or like our inner light. We all have hope or optimism come shining through when we most need it. It's a blazing light burning away the fear. It would be great if we could stay that way all the time. But our inner struggle continues in our lives between fear and faith each and every day.

On a bad day, maybe the faith in you feels buried. You are grumpy, in a bad mood and nothing goes right. The world appears dark and dead.

On a good day, faith is shining like the sun.  You have compassion for yourself and others, notice the life around you.  The world can be vibrant and alive.

This polarity can hold us back from spiritual and personal growth. What keeps us going back and forth? What drives our inner struggle?

Sometimes we feel alone or that we're the only one with a particular issue. This is a false reality or illusion. We have all come from the same source. As humans we are all innerconnected within the same field of energy. Each of us have similar core issues too. They are buried beneath the surface. This information is accessed by the subsconsious mind knows this and can create fears.

Everyone shares the following core issues:

  • Number One:
Core Fear we are separated from God.
We are born we are no longer are a part of the "one" or "unity" we came from.  It's a shock to become a being separated into two parts. This causes a polarity struggle we will fight our whole life.  We will want to be reunited with our oneness our whol lives.  Since we cannot consciously go back without attaining enlightenment it then leads into the next core issue.
  • Number Two:
Core Belief we are inherently flawed.
Now that we are living in polarity which is flawed, feel that there must be something wrong witth us.  How many times in life to we doubt ourselves? Those types of thoughts come from this Core Belief. When we operate from a belief that we are "inherently flawed", a tremendous amount of secondary fears arise. Such as: fear of confrontation;fear of taking a chance; fear of making a decision; fear of relationships and many others. If we think we are not good enough then it can be very hard to believe in ourselves and open to healthy experiences.

As an individual we have unique experiences that cause the accumulation of other secondary fears, beliefs, perceptions of life. Our unique experiences create a world specific to us which can be negative or positive (fear or faith). Of course our daily lives are full of both types of moments.

We must have greater faith in ourselves and compassion for others to release the fears that take so much energy from our lives. It can be easier to walk the path on our journey if we understand everyone shares the same core issues.

During the coming days of our life as we bounce back and forth between fear and faith, we should remember our connectedness. We should not judge ourselves so harshly.  Perhaps we can feel less alone when we are having a bad day. Perhaps it will also allow us to express greater compassion when your faith is shining.

Please allow your days this month to know more happiness and joy. Try to celebrate the live you have been given more.  Remember to hug and hold each other.

Till Next Month Blessings ,

CJ
